Scholastic Book Clubs: November Classroom Activities

Hype up winter reading and festive vibes in your classroom with just-for-Clubs fun and games.

Book Clubs Classroom Poster Activity

Countdown the days to holiday vacay—and spruce up your classroom with this group reading activity and decorative poster.

Instructions:

  1. Hang your Scholastic Book Clubs bookshelf poster in a prime spot.
  2. Cut out narrow rectangles of coloured paper in various sizes. Let your students decorate these ”book spines” with titles they can’t wait to read over winter break. (Cue the glitter!)
  3. Every day, ask one student to add their book to the shelf and share why they’re pumped to read it.
  4. On the last day of school, treat your students to a year-end party! If families are invited, encourage kids to show off their winter reading pick.

Teachers can find their copy of the classroom poster in the November Teacher Newsletter, or download a digital copy here.

Book Buddy Classroom Activity

Grades: Preschool–5

Spruce up your classroom Book Club with a special guest: your very own Book Buddy! Let students pick their fave character, then download and print—and let the countdown to winter break begin.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Cut out the Book Buddy on the dotted lines.
  2. Pick a starting spot to display your Buddy. (A piece of tape should do the trick.)
  3. Every day until the winter break, move your Buddy to a new spot. Sneak it into place before class begins. Can your students find it? Or let kids take turns picking your Buddy’s “perch” for the day!

Instructions:

  1. Play as a class: students take turns calling out the requested words, you fill in the blanks of the story.
  2. Play in pairs: one student supplies the words (no peeking!), their teammate fills in the blanks.

When you’re finished, read aloud—and cue the snort-laughs!
