Lost Credit Card Instructions

If you have found a credit or debit card that was left behind at your Book Fair, please secure the card in a locked area.

 

Record the following information and store it with the card:

  • Name of the Person who found/reported the lost card
  • Location where the card was found (eg. left at checkout table, etc)
  • Date the card was found
  • Type and Brand of Card (Debit or Credit; Visa, Mastercard, etc)
  • Name on the card
  • Last 4 digits of the card number

If the card owner returns to retrieve their card, please confirm their identity by requiring a picture ID such as a driver’s license, or other government ID. The name on the card and the ID must match exactly. NOTE: THE CARD OWNER MUST RETRIEVE THEIR CARD IN PERSON. You are not allowed to return the card to the owner by mail or any other means.


Record the following information at the time of the return:

  • Name of the person who returned the lost card to the card owner
  • Date the card was returned
  • Address where the return took place

If the card owner cannot be reached within 3 days of your discovery of the card, you must destroy the card. NOTE: The card must be shredded or cut with scissors and not simply disposed of it in the trash.


Record the following information when you destroy the card:

  • Name of the person shredding the card
  • Date and Time of shredding

You should keep this record for two weeks, then destroy it by shredding.
