These Trackers Will Keep Your Kids Motivated to Read!

Nothing sets kids up for success like reading regularly, and book trackers are the perfect way to record reading progress. That’s why we’ve put together four free printable book trackers, one for each from September to December. Your kids will develop reading skills and confidence — plus, a well-deserved sense of pride in their accomplishments.

Download a Free Reading Tracker

Book tracking helps keep reading top of mind while promoting regular reading. Twenty minutes of reading per day is a common homework assignment, but it’s also a good-for-you personal goal. Scholastic’s research shows that “twenty-one minutes a day of reading outside of school results in higher scores on reading achievement tests and an increase of more than 1.8 million reading words annually (Fisher & Frey, 2018).”

To help your whole family track their reading stats, we’ve provided four free reading trackers. They’re a simple, fun way to visualize progress toward their reading goals. Print out multiple copies and make reading a fun activity for the whole family.

Need new favourite family reads to add to your fancy new trackers? We’ve got you covered there, too. Whether your child is an emerging reader soaking up every read aloud, an independent reader gearing up for beginning chapter books, or an older reader eager to stretch their wings with brand-new adventures, we’ve got the perfect book list of recommendations to build your book library.

Every book, series, and pack is a stepping stone toward a lifelong love of reading and learning – turning every day reading routines into habits that build lasting success.

Read Aloud With Favourite Characters

Even before kids can read to themselves, they’re building reading habits. Every reading session helps, from a family read aloud at bedtime to the story hour at the local library. Best of all, your kiddo’s favourite characters have whole series devoted to their adventures. So whether your emergent reader is a fan of Bluey, Peppa, Clifford, or Gabby, there’s a whole slew of stories that will thrill them and fuel their book tracking fun.

Early Chapter Books and Fast-Paced Adventures

Do you remember how magical it was when reading started clicking for you — and you could finally get lost in a story you could read all by yourself? Early chapter books like Diary of a Pug and the Owl Diaries  help build on this excitement with easy-to-read stories and fast-paced plots (plus some pretty adorable heroes for kids to fall in love with).

Both series are part of Scholastic’s early chapter book line Branches, which is aimed at newly independent readers. These easy, engaging reads will help boost your reader’s confidence while building a foundation for a lifetime of reading. Other series in this line include Disaster Squad and Dragon Masters — so there really is something to interest every kid and fill every book tracker.

Middle School  Readers

Watching big kids and tweens fall in love with a new series is one of the greatest reading-related joys of parenting. And middle school readers have plenty of series to choose from. Make reading time a joy by letting them follow their interests, whether they’re into Dog Man, Pokémon, or Dragon Girls.

Ready to fill up those trackers for the school year ahead?

Book Clubs features stories that stick with kids and help turn reading into a lifelong habit. Search by grade and age, format and subject, or series and characters.
