New Year, New Reading Resolutions

Here at the Scholastic Canada School Markets Team, we put our minds together and came up with 10 reading resolutions for the new year:

Resolution #1: Share your favourite books – Avery H.

Sharing books is one of the best ways to discover new series, authors, and genres. I love book-sharing with young readers and introducing them to series I loved when I was younger. There is nothing better than introducing a reader to a new series and watching them enjoy it as much as you did!

Resolution #2: Read 30 minutes a day – Genevieve P.

Set aside a short amount of time dedicated to reading per day. That way, you’re more likely to keep the routine going.

Resolution #3: Reading a book my teen recommends – Patricia C.

Book recommendations from family and friends are always welcomed! (FYI… it has 500+ chapters and is a web-based book that they are continually adding chapters too! I may be in over my head!)

Resolution #4: Explore different genres – Paul S.

Try stepping out of your comfort zone by reading books from other genres that you don’t usually read. Big fan of fantasy? Why not try non-fiction for a change? You just might surprise yourself if you give different books a chance.

Resolution #5: Actually reading all the books for my book club! – Veronica S.

There are those who talk about wanting to read books. And then there are those who actually do the reading. Be the latter! Plus, you’ll have more to say at your book club!

Resolution #6: Start a book club – Heather W.

I would like to start a book club of sorts with my nephew. We have a shared love of all things fantastic and Future Hero seems like just the ticket to take us on a great adventure. I have a copy for both of us that we’ll start in January so we can share the action and spend some quality time together! Very excited to dive in!

Resolution #7: Read one book a month! – Nicole S.

Keep your reading goals practical and manageable. And by the end of the year, you will have read 12 books!

Resolution #8: Reading before bed – Chrissy B.

Reading before bed instead of scrolling the internet! It’s much more relaxing and better for sleep, plus I’ll get more pages in than I will trying to squeeze in reading into other parts of my day!

Resolution #9: Read everywhere! – Joanne D.

Reading everywhere = happy time! On your couch, in your bed, at the table, in the train, in the bus, in the bathtub, outside while waiting for your lift… Happy reading!

Resolution #10: Making the time to read books I’ve set aside for way too long now! – Lori G.

With our busy schedules, it’s easy to let reading time fall by the wayside. But it’s never too late to change our reading habits and carve out more time for reading!
